Girl Soccer Players Take a Hit After Homecoming

At least two girls’ club soccer teams were affected by having games the morning after Saturday’s Homecoming dance.

Sunday morning, Space Coast U17 Girls lost 3-0 to Boca.

“I was super tired and didn’t have lots of energy,” junior Haley Walker said.

According to Walker, with the dance ending at 11 p.m. Saturday, it was difficult for her to wake up and perform her best during the 10 a.m. game in Port St. Lucie.

Sophomore Erin O’Brien said her team — Brevard Soccer Alliance — experienced a similar letdown, losing  7-0 to Florida Kraze Krush. With several teammates injured and tired, O’Brien’s team ran out of substitutes and had to play 10 players instead of the traditional 11 towards the end of the game.

“It felt pretty bad to lose so badly, especially since our coach threatened to make us run at practice for the next two weeks,” O’Brien said.
