Student athletes have their own unique routines before games, but one key factor that sets them apart is music. While some players rely on high-energy beats to get fired up, others prefer a more relaxed approach, tuning in to slower, calming songs. All together music can make all the difference in focus, motivation, and confidence.

“I always listen to hype music,” eighth grader and soccer player Brooklyn Lauer said. “It makes me want to play stronger and gives me more confidence.”

Lauer’s go-to songs include Forever Ever by Trippie Redd and Tumbler Girls by G-Eazy. She said that she believes an intense playlist is key to getting in the right mindset before stepping onto the field.

Freshman and soccer player Preston Kennedy takes the opposite approach.

“I listen to chill music before a game,” Kennedy said. “I don’t need to get hyped—I just need to stay focused.”

Unlike Lauer, Kennedy sticks to the same playlist every time, believing consistency is the key to staying focused.

Senior and soccer player Athan Zaiden, however, finds himself in between.

“I don’t really have a set playlist—I just listen to whatever I’m feeling that day,” Zaiden said. “Whether it is Beyoncé and Coldplay or Travis Scott and Baby Cute,” he said. “Some days I need to get pumped up, and other days I just need to relax.”
