French Honor members celebrate with crepes
The French Honor Society decided to dive deeper into their namesake’s culture during National French Week. On Nov. 5 they met at the La Crepe restaurant in Downtown Melbourne where they sampled crepes. The owners of the restaurant hail from Brittany, a region in France that specializes in crepes.
French teacher Jennifer Walker said it was a good experience for her students.
“There was a good turnout,” Walker said. “About 25 students showed up and it was a good way to taste french food as well as speak French with the owners.”
Junior Evan Cooper came up with the idea for the event.
“I had eaten at the restaurant before,” Cooper said. “I thought it would be someplace cool to go during National French Week since the food was so authentic and good. It seemed to melt inside your mouth.”
The toppings and type of crepes included raspberry, peanut butter, bananas, marshmallows, ice cream, walnuts, fudge and Nutella.
Walker appeared pleased with the outcome.
“I feel like everyone had fun,” Walker said. “It could end up becoming something fun to do every fall during National French Week.”
