Lisa Rehm, an English Honors I teacher, has been working with her students all year to prepare them for the upcoming FAST Reading Test on May 1.

Everything we do in class is connected to our state standards,” Rehm said. “On the state assessments, the standards that are repeated throughout the course of the year are the ones that are tested. As we get closer to the assessment, we take a look at putting it all together, more specific to the FAST test.”

Throughout the year, Rehm has assigned various assignments to her students, ranging from book reports to research essays to vocabulary flashcards. Each one is designed to prepare the students for their final test.

“I felt that all of the assignments we did were helpful in preparing me for the test,” freshman Anisha Chityal said. “Ms. Rehm has really given us a variety of assignments to prepare us. I think the comprehension checks will help the most.”

Rehm also noted the importance of preparing outside of her class. She gave advice to her students on what they can do to give themselves the best experience with their test.

“Participating in class and completing assignments during the year make a difference, just like running drills in a sport can enhance performance on the field,” Rehm said. “Getting a good night’s rest, eating a power breakfast and going for a walk around the school before ‘game time’ can also make a big difference.”
