Eleven make girls’ basketball team

The Lady Wildcats basketball team held their tryouts on Monday and they now are beginning to prepare for the season. Seniors Taylor Smith and Kayla Garoust,  juniors Emily Hansen, Victoria Hahn, Erin O’Brien, Cydney Asante and Naya Erfe along with sophomores Ashton Braid, Pooja Shah, Lasya Damaraju and sophomore Zohra Mujeeb all made the team.

“I’m looking forward to the upcoming season because we have a great group of girls and we all seem to get along, which is something that hasn’t happened for a while,” Smith said. “It is always nice to have fresh faces and the four players moving up are a great fit with the team. I have no doubt in my mind that we’re going to have a pretty good season.”

This season the Lady Wildcats will be joining the Cape Coast Conference and they will face with lots of adversity with the addition of four new players.

“I expect it to be a fun season and a good way to start stepping up my game to a fast pace,” Ashton said. “I am a little nervous about joining the Cape Coast Conference because we are going up against teams with a lot bigger and faster girls, so it will be a difficult season.

The Lady Wildcats open their season at home on Monday at 7 p.m. against Viera.
