Does Timberlake deserve to perform at Super Bowl LII?

Exactly 14 years ago, pop singer Justin Timberlake performed at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.  This is also the time and place of Janet Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” in which Timberlake pulled off a part of Jackson’s top, revealing her bare breast in front of an estimated 51 million viewers. Timberlake is scheduled to perform as the headliner at the Super Bowl halftime Sunday.  Super Bowl fans are now debating whether or not he should be allowed to perform in light of his halftime show history.

“I think it’s OK if they allow it,” freshman Katie Perez said. “It was a while ago, and I think it’s good to give people second chances. Besides, they could have picked someone way worse.”

Others are not so quick to offer their forgiveness.

“What he did was disrespectful to Jackson and not appropriate on TV,” Sophomore Donnie Luchetti said. “He may claim to be a changed man, but that doesn’t mean he should get a second chance. All in all, I think his past actions will cause people to tune out of [the Super Bowl] because of it.”
