Dance team prepares for summer camp

The Purrfections dance team will be attending Universal Dance Association camp this summer at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona. The team will be there from July 18-21. This is the fourth summer the team has gone to the camp.

The dancers will learn three routines which they will be judged on. The routines learned at camp will be brought home to be performed at soccer and basketball games.

“[The dancers] will have technique class every day,” Coach April Shaw said. “They also learn how to pick up choreography quickly. That is a very important skill if they ever want to audition for a college or professional dance team.”

In past years, the camp has been held at the University of Central Florida. But despite the change in venue, dancers are still looking forward to the event.

“I am very excited to see what the new location is like and learn the new routines,” freshman Keiran Sheridan said.

Each day at camp, the team will participate in team-building activities.

“[The activities] are always a ton of fun, bring us closer together and help us function better as a team,” Sheridan said.
