Crew winds up 5,000m season

Space Coast Crew held its last official practice for the season Friday.

“I’m excited for a new season, but I sort of feel like the 5000m season went by pretty quickly,” novice team member Michael Pickering said.

Varsity member AJ Desantis agrees.

“My favorite memory was going to Tennessee for the Head of the Hooch race, because it’s just such a nice race. It’s a really great city, and you get to compete with people other than the state of Florida,” Desantis said. “Other than when you go to the regional race, it’s the only other race where you compete against people from all over the Southeast.”

The team will continue training for the “sprint” season in spring, which features races that are shorter and less about endurance.

“We’re going to be doing a lot more lifting and trying to bulk up a little bit so when spring comes we can pull a lot harder,” Desantis said.

He also believes that the next season will go better than this one did.

“I’m kind of excited because I like sprint season a lot more. The shorter, more intense races are a lot more fun and interesting,” Desantis said.
