Crew team to increase practices for Spring Break

In an effort to prepare for the state championship regatta, Space Coast Crew will hold two practices a day next week during Spring Break.  The early practice will last from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the afternoon practice will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. During the second practice time on Monday through Wednesday, there will be a learn-to-row camp in order to encourage potential members for next year’s team.

Coach Allison Murphy said that having two practices a day will improve everyone’s rowing abilities.

“I think two a days will really give us the competitive edge we need,” Murphy said. “I know a lot of very talented teams even send their kids to college rowing camps over Spring Break, but that is too expensive. I think this is the next best thing.”

Sophomore coxswain Sommer Hidy likes the idea of  two-a-days.

“I think that having two practices will really help some rowers improve for states,” she said. “Some kids have not been showing up to practice lately, and it has been showing when we race. I think this practicing will bring up attendance and remind everyone that states are coming up.”
