Crew heads to Sarasota meet

Rowers from Space Coast Crew will be competing in the Southeast Youth Championship this weekend. Crews from all over the southeast region of the country will compete in a 2,000 meter race which will be held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.

“States was held here so I’m familiar with the course,” junior Jake Bursk said.

During the state championship, freshmen Emily Eastwood earned first place in her event.

“It was scary during the race,” Eastwood said. “It was a close race and I wasn’t sure if we were going to win.”

Junior Martina Parguian expects a good race.

“I’m racing in a really competitive event,” Parguian said. “We might not qualify for nationals, but we’re going to put up a good fight.”

The top three teams in each event move on to the national competition that will be held in New Jersey in June. Junior Michael Fagan is hoping for a win.

“We been practicing for a long time,” Fagan said. “I think that the months and months of training will pay off.”
