Crew gets ready for a banquet overload

Members of Space Coast Crew have begun preparing for three of the banquets that are headed their way.

“We have one that’s coming up this weekend, it’s during our  regatta[a race] it’s like a dinner that’s mostly for the seniors who are graduating,” freshman Krystal Macom said. “It’s my first year going, so I’m not sure what to expect. The next banquet, just for West Shore members of Space Coast Crew has been scheduled for May 4. There’s one more after that that’s for everybody on the team, that’s on May 5. That one”s just kind of like to say ‘Oh it’s the end of the season’ and to congratulate us on a job well done.”

Eighth-grader Morgan G. described one of the banquets.

“At the West Shore banquet the coaches and everyone dress up nice,” she said. “All the  rowers go after practice and then the seniors go up and say a little speech. After that everyone gets their certificate and then there’s a big dinner and everyone eats it.”

Eighth-grader Anastacia D. said she’s looking forward to the state banquet.

“On Saturday night when everyone is done racing and everyone is at the hotel, there is like a dinner where all the rowers go,” she said. “All the seniors sit by all their families, and they give speeches about their time during crew and what they learned and who they appreciate. They say thanks to their coaches, parents, and to the team. It’s a nice little get-together.”
