County science fair set for Feb. 17-18

Research students are busily competing their science project in time for the Brevard County Science Fair scheduled to begin Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Merritt Square Mall.

A second day of presenting projects will be held Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. After presenting has been completed, all participants will attend a 7 p.m. awards ceremony at Merritt Island High School.

Anyone can go to the mall and view the science project boards and visit students, when they’re not being interviewed.

Students’ boards are due this week, and they will be practicing their presentations in class until the fair opens.

Sophomore Sierra Purden is anxious to complete her project.

“I’m really nervous about getting everything done on time,” she said. “But I’m also really excited because this will be my first science fair project since elementary school.”
