Upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie gains the attention of students

“Beetlejuice” was one of the most popular cinematic productions of the 1980s. With the massive success of the original movie and the recent increase in production of remade films, director Tim Burton revealed the name of the second “Beetlejuice” movie and the initial poster Feb. 1. The movie is scheduled to be released Sept. 6, and the cast will include Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe.

“I think it’s going to be a good movie; I loved the original and have relatively high hopes for the second,” sophomore Cora Pearson said. “I’m a tiny bit confused because although I like Jenna Ortega and think she did well in productions like ‘Scream’ and ‘Wednesday,’ I’m not sure if I like how she was cast in this.”

Viewers got their first look into the film with the release of the official teaser trailer March 21. The trailer shows how the Deetz family returns to Winter River and Lydia’s daughter Astrid is set to accidentally resurrect the ghost Beetlejuice, just as her mother did in the original.

“I think they did an amazing job at keeping a lot of aspects, especially the set, nearly the same as the original,” freshman Sharayah Chapman said. “I believe they’ll do a great job at continuing the plotline from the original and it will be a good movie.”

Although Pearson said she is excited to see the new adaption, she expressed concerns with it.

“I hope they at least make it a good continuation of the first,” Pearson said. “It kind of seems like an out-there concept since it involves the ‘next generation,’ which is always sort of iffy within media in my opinion. I hope they’re able to make it still feel like a Beetlejuice movie, like yes, it’ll have the cast and effects, but I just hope it can project the same sort of mood that the first one did.”
