The school will be replacing old weight training equipment in the weight room with new machines that will ensure more functionality and safety for students.
According to physical education teacher Jenny Pazderak, the school will purchase and install two new squat racks with benches that can be used for multiple exercises such as squats and bench presses. They will be delivered within the next few weeks.
“Instead of having to rotate between machines, having the new racks can make it easier for students to do all of those exercises on one machine,” Pazderak said. “This will free up some space for us to better utilize our weight room and make sure the students are safe.”
Pazderak said that they removed an old universe machine, leg press and multiple weight training benches, as they were damaged and have been in use since the school opened around 20 years ago.
“Over time, we realized [the room] was overcrowded,” Pazderak said. “Removing some of the old equipment [and getting new ones] will give us an upgrade to what more gyms have and help our students in their training.”
Sophomore Gabriel Johnson, who takes weight training class, said that he believes there has been a need for new equipment for a while.
“Although they do their job, the equipment we have right now is just really old,” Johnson said. “It just seems like they’re on their way out. The fact that we’re getting new ones is something very useful that the school is doing for our class.”
