Latin students visited seventh grade English classes and gave a presentation to recruit new students into the Latin Program.
“Many [seventh graders] don’t know what Latin is about, so we give them guidance as to why they might want to join our program,” freshman and Latin Club Vice President Daniel Mirell said.
The presentation featured different aspects of the class.
“The slideshow had information about the class itself, Fun Fridays and Forum,” Mirell said.
The students spoke about the benefits of taking the class.
“We talked about [the] Latin state and regional competitions, the benefit of taking Latin for job and college applications and the work we do in class,” freshman Eileen Hatch said.
They did a total of nine presentations.
“We got good feedback from the classes we’ve been to, and I definitely think we’ll have a larger group for next year,” Mirell said. “It was very fun interacting with them and getting them interested in taking Latin for next year.”
A majority of West Shore students choose to take Spanish when picking their foreign language.
“It’s important because many sevvies don’t know better when choosing their language for next year and often stumble down a wrong path that keeps them miserable for the next three years,” Mirell said.
