Juniors and seniors dance the night away at prom April 12

Prom was held April 12 at the Hilton Rialto for juniors and seniors. The event was run by the junior class.

“The tickets were $80 this year [for juniors]; they only went up $5 from last year, and for prom to be profitable, we needed them to be that much,” junior class officer Allison Gunnell said.

The junior class held several fundraisers to cover prom.

“Homecoming dance tickets — the money that we made from that was a fundraiser that we used for prom; we did a pasta fundraiser; we had a restaurant night at [Le Crepe de France] in downtown Melbourne as well as Powder Puff,” junior class sponsor Melanie Richardson said.

The class raised about $2,400 from prom this year, and the money will be put into graduation, Grad Bash and other senior activities.

“All the money that we have raised throughout the year, regardless of whether it was from prom or other fundraisers, that’s all going to be used in order to cover the current juniors’ expenses for all of the activities that they do next year,” Richardson said.

Gunnell said prom was a night to remember.

“I loved hanging out with my friends and just getting dressed up, getting ready together and then going to take pictures. It was a new experience that I really liked,” Gunnell said.
