Art students create works for Space Coast Art Festival T-Shirt Design Contest

Art students are working on their submissions for the Space Coast Art Festival T-Shirt Design Contest alongside other schools in Brevard County. The contest is available for all students ages K-12 in Brevard. The 59th Space Coast Art Festival will take place Oct. 12 and 13 at The Avenue in Viera.

“The work the kids do is amazing every year,” art teacher Jelena Robbins said. “Although the art has to have the words ‘2024 Space Coast Art Festival’ or ‘SCAF’ plus the year, we always get creative and unique stuff.”

The two best designs will be featured on the art program guide, and the overall winner will be used on the volunteer t-shirts. The winner will receive $150.

“I’ve been doing this for around 20 years”, digital art teacher James Finch said. “It’s always a great opportunity for students to create and use their imagination and maybe earn an award for their work.”

The deadline for all submissions will be May 1.

“This is one of my favorite assignments I give to my art students every year,” Finch said. “My students are so talented that the judges usually favor the work that looks worse because it actually looks like a kid drew it; we are just that good.”
