Art students are working on their submissions for one of the most competitive art competitions West Shore will participate in: Doodle for Google.
The contest is available for all teachers and students K-12 from America, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories. Students must create art using the theme “no dream is too big or small.”
“Students have a lot of freedom with their art,” art teacher Jelena Robbins said. “As long as they follow the theme, they can make it anything they want: it could be a video, it could be a digital or physical drawing, it could even be a clay sculpture.”
Out of 55 states and territories, there will be one national winner, several finalists and state and territory winners.
“You’re competing for some serious prizes,” digital art teacher James Finch said. “National champion gets a $50,000 scholarship, and the school also gets $50,000 for supplies and tech. You know how much I could do with that?”
The deadline for all submissions will be March 24.
“This is a great opportunity for our students,” Finch said. “My passion is art, so I want to get that out there, I want my kids to enjoy it. Art isn’t just a thing we do. It’s who we are, and this showcases their work. I want to do that every chance I get.”
