It was West Shore’s lack of production in the second quarter that led to the varsity boys’ basketball team losing to the Satellite Scorpions 53-41 Saturday.

After having a 1-point lead at the end of the first quarter, it was the 11-4 second quarter that eventually lead to the ’Cats’ downfall, and although West Shore fought back in the third and fourth quarters, it couldn’t climb out of the hole it had dug for itself.

The ’Cats were led by senior guard Anthony Wattwood who scored 10 points and had two assists, three rebounds, and two steals.  Other contributors included sophomore guard Chris Mikulas who had 9 points, five rebounds and two steals, and senior center John Bond who had a near double-double, recording 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Wattwood said the lack of shots led to West Shore’s demise.

“We played really hard and played great defense but we weren’t making our shots and at times we were rushing on offense,” he said.

The Cats, who fell 10-10 after losing their fourth straight game since the Winter Break, continue their five-game road trip against Covenant Christian next, hoping to keep an above .500 record.  The Cats are 1-0 against Covenant Christian, beating them in the Wildcat Tourney during the Winter Break.
