“Captain America: Brave New World” elicits mixed student reactions

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios announced plans to release three new movies and six television series in 2025. The first of these releases, “Captain America: Brave New World,” debuted in theaters on Feb. 14. Students have shared varied opinions on the film.

“I went into the movie with high hopes, and they were in every way exceeded,” junior Hannah Jones said. “I loved the plot — I thought it was very well done.”

Captain America: Brave New World takes place after Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, where the character Sam Wilson officially earned the title of Captain America. In the movie, Wilson must live up to the expectations set by the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, and the legacy he left as the first Avenger. Junior Hannah Jones discussed her favorite part of the movie.

“I loved the development of Sam Wilson as Captain America,” Jones said. “I thought they did such a good job of displaying the struggle of stepping into Steve Rogers’ boots and becoming the symbol that is the mantle of Captain America.”

However, others felt the plot could have been more developed.

“[The movie] advances the Marvel series and provides a good base for movies to come.” sophomore Landon Plechaty said. “I thought the movie was pretty good, but there was quite a lack of action.”
