Boys’ crew fall season comes to a close

The Space Coast boys’ varsity crew took its rowing to Augusta, Ga., and Novice crew to Stetson University in Deland to compete on Saturday in the final races of fall season.

“My favorite season in crew is fall season because it’s a lot easier to balance school,” senior Erik Dearman said. “Instead of in spring where it’s almost like 24/7.”

The next racing season — spring season — entails short-distance rowing; 2k’s, whereas this season consisted of 5k’s. The current season — winter season—  consists of practicing and no regattas.

Still, senior Sean Markham prefers the fall schedule.

“I like the fall season best. It isn’t when we have our most competitive races, but I like the atmosphere better in the long races,” Markham said. “My job as a coxswain has more of a role in those sort of races too, if you take the turns right you go faster. Also, it is just really pretty with fall colors.”
