Boys’ basketball opens season with emphatic win over Eagles

The West Shore boys’ varsity basketball team officially started their season with a 61-49 victory over the Brevard Christian Eagles.

The Wildcats set the tone early with full-court ball pressure which led to more scoring opportunities.

Senior Center John Bond led the way with a double-double, tallying 21 points and 12 rebounds, and believes this win will help the team prepare for their first home game against the Satellite Scorpions.

“It helped us work together as a team which is important for our success,” Bond said.

Senior Scott Adams is also hopeful for todays’ game versus the Scorpions.

“I’m getting used to the pain and hopefully the injury will not affect my play significantly, so I plan on playing… as long as coach lets me,” Adams said.

Bond knows what the team must do to beat Satellite, and it’s more of the same from the night before.

“The key [in last night’s game] was running in transition and being patient in the half-court and causing turnovers,” Bond said.

The Wildcats plan to achieve the same offensive success and to apply the same defensive pressure against the Scorpions.

Tip-off is at 5:30 for the junior varsity squad and varsity follows at 7 p.m.
