BCTE writing entries due March 12

The Brevard Council Teachers of English is once again hosting its annual writing contest for Brevard County public school students.

The contest has several categories, including Realistic/Historical fiction, Fantasy/Sci-Fi fiction, Non-fiction, Memoir, Novel/Dramatic Script and Poetry.

“It’s one of the best things the BCTE does to promote writing and our talented writers across the district,” language arts teacher Lisa Rehm said.

Rehm was once an officer for the BCTE and still serves on the council.

Language arts Adrienne Gent also enjoys the contest, but feels the turnaround for the entries is too quick.

“I think it would be better if students were given a few more weeks,” she said, “so that they can turn in really good writing instead of something rushed.”

Those interesting in entering the contest must submit a hard copy and electronic copy of their work along with the entry from to their language arts teachers.

All submission must be received by March 12.
