ALS fund-raiser walk set for March 15

As the annual Walk to Defeat ALS event approaches, volunteers are urged to join the Brevard Support Group to honor former West Shore teacher Jason Whitworth and others, who will be attending the event. The 1.3 mile walk — scheduled for March 15 — is a two-lap course around Orlando’s Lake Eola. One lap is a remembrance of those who have died from the disease and the other is in honor of current ALS victims.

“We need to join together to support Mr.Whitworth and the ALS community,” science teacher Amy McCormick said.

Check in for the walk begins at 5 :30 and the walk itself will commence at 7 p.m. Participants may sign up to join a group or may donate to a group.

Although ALS is incurable, the annual care expenses average about $200,000 dollars per patient.

“If you can’t attend the walk itself, donating even just a small contribution is always helpful and appreciated,” McCormickm said.

To sign up for the walk, join the Brevard Support Group team or make a donation visit the walk’s website at:
