Wildcat swimmers swamp Edgewood

Sophomore Kayla Stevens improved her 100-meter breast stroke time and junior Elena Abascal broke her personal record for the 100 backstroke as the Lady Wildcats defeated archrival Edgwood 108-72 Tuesday.

“I was working toward the school record of 1:10:51 and ended up beating my personal record with 1:12:28,” Abascal said. “Breaking my own record was especially challenging because right before my race I had to run to the car to get something for an injured teammate, and I had tons of stingers in my feet that I didn’t have time to take out before my race.”

The 36-point victory against the Indians proved especially sweet.

“Edgewood is supposedly our rival, but we managed to beat them by a lot,” sophomore Claire Rauchfuss said.

The Lady Wildcats are next scheduled to swim Tuesday at Fee Avenue pool against Satellite in the last meet before districts.
