Marissa Patel, the Junior Class president, was interviewed about fund-raising for the upcoming year to raise money for events including Prom in the spring.
Junior Class President Marissa Patel said she has high hopes for both the boys’ and girls’ powderpuff teams heading into Spirit Week on Sept. 23-28. The girls’ team, led by coach Anthony Raheb, a social studies teacher, and junior Jake Dimond, has a variety of athletic talents, including Lydia Kline, a starter on the varsity basketball team and Mikayla Almeida, a member of the varsity lacrosse team.
The boys’ team choreographers are Alicia Ortiz, Erin Sheridan, Michelle Maldonado, and Taylor Kelley. The team consists of 22 boys who practice every week. “I expect them to do their best, and so far they have done that. They’re working hard and I really think it’s going to pay off,” Ortiz said regarding the progress of the boy’s cheerleading team. The powderpuff game will be on Sept. 26.
In other news, the Junior Class raised $700 at a car wash held at Doubles Beachside on Sept. 7. The money will be going toward funding prom, which will be held April 12 at the Hilton Rialto.
