Slam Poetry Club has few male members, creating uncertainty for sponsor Kimberly Walling regarding the number of boys who will be attending the slam off poetry competition scheduled for Thursday during Power Hour A and B.

“Since this is my first year sponsoring Slam Poetry, I don’t know [how many boys will watch],” Walling said. “But I would highly suggest anyone to [watch] the Slam Off, regardless of gender.”

Eighth-grader Nathan K. is more sure of the number of male viewers of the Slam Off.

“I would expect 10 to 20 guys to [watch] the slam off,” he said.

Freshman Hannah Jones said boys can participate in poetry without seeming nervous or out of place.

“There are some famous poets [that were male], such as Oscar Wilde and Sappho,” Jones said.
