“Breakfast Delight” by junior Kevin Jones won first place in high school digital art at the Melbourne Art Festival.

Junior Kevin Jones won first place for his piece, Breakfast Delight, in high school digital art and sophomore Hannah Keats won first place for her piece, Recomposing, in high school 3D art in the 30th annual Melbourne Art Festival on Saturday April 26.

“I know quite a few people enter the contest and knowing that I usually only win honorable mention I kind of gave up this year, so it was really exciting to hear that I won first.” Jones said. “I got $75 for winning first place.”

Several other students also placed in the festival. Eighth grader Gillian W. won second place and seventh grader Sage F. won honorable mention in seventh and eighth grade graphic art. For high school painting senior Samantha Grant received second place.

“I didn’t think there were that many outstanding pieces there so it wasn’t that big of a deal to win, but last year I won second place so I did make improvement.” Grant said.

For high school photography, junior Mitch Braun won third place, along with an honorable mention in digital art. Two other students received patrons awards.

“I actually didn’t even know that I won the awards,” Braun said. “But I’m pretty stoked about it nonetheless.”
