Volleyball team topples Covenant Christian

Senior Megan Larsen and junior Aalekhya Tenali combined for 10 aces as the volleyball team knocked off the Covenant Christian Lions 25-5, 25-16, 25-13 in three straight games Wednesday.

Tenali and senior Kaitlyn Forry tied for the team lead in kills with four each. Larsen also added eight assists and junior Tess Sheets tallied five blocks.

Head Coach Bonnie Priester pointed to serveral reasons for the victory.

“Because when you look good, you play good,” Priester said. “Tonight’s match was more competitive as we rose up to control our side and dominate the scoreboard.

Sophomore Diana Sheedy also was impressed with the effort.

“We played together as a team,” Sheedy said, “and we kept our level up against a weaker team”

Junior varsity and former varsity coach Nicole Anagnostis said she’s looking forward to better competition when district competition starts tonight at Satellite High School and Thursday when the Cocoa Beach Minutemen travel to West Shore to face the Wildcats.

“I can’t wait until next Thursday when we compete against a higher level team so that our fans can come out and see some real power volleyball,” she said.
