Volleyball team makes history vs. Satellite

Junior Tess Sheet’s 21 kills coupled with junior Kylie Wenger’s 42 digs and senior Meagan Larsen’s 20 digs and 20 assists led the West Shore volleyball team past Satellite High School. Although considered the underdog team, the Lady Wildcats pulled out a victory against the Scorpions in the fifth set, winning the match 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 22-25 and 17-15.

“It was an extremely hard-fought match, and  the Wildcats finished on top after five long games,” Coach Bonnie Priester said. “This is the first time in history for West Shore to get a Satellite district win. I am proud of the offensive and defensive effort and look forward to the match versus Cocoa Beach at home.”

The Lady Wildcats took an early lead by winning the first two games consecutively. However, a few badly-timed unforced errors and a strong offensive effort by the Scorpions caused the match to go into a fifth set, where the Wildcats broke the Scorpions serve, holding them at 11-14 and then going on to win the set 17-15.

“It was the best West Shore volleyball game ever,” said Chris Larsen, the parent of player Meagan Larsen. “Five years in the making for us. It’s been an exciting night.”

The Lady Wildcats are now preparing for their upcoming game versus Cocoa Beach High School which will be held Thursday in the West Shore gym.
