Lady Wildcats finish unbeaten

The middle school girls’ basketball team won 38-24 over Edgewood to wrap up its 8-0 regular season. The team took first place in the 2013 Central Division, and the opponent and location of the first postseason game is still unknown. Coach George Derr is proud of the team’s improvement and hard work that led to the successful regular season.

“They are tougher on themselves after games than Coach Hamilton or I am on them and that is a sign of a team that has high expectations of itself,” Derr said. “We have had excellent leadership from several players this season combined with the enthusiasm many of our newer players have brought with them that has developed a philosophy of dedication to the team.”

While Derr is proud of how the team performed in the regular season, he is already looking forward to the challenging postseason.

“Now that we have completed our first goal – winning our division – it is on to the two postseason games,” Derr said.

The coach also believes some credit should go to the support the girls have had throughout the season.

“We would like to thank the West Shore Community for the fantastic support, both at home and on the road this season,” Derr said. “And a special thanks to Principal Fleming for making the road trip to Edgewood to watch us in our season finale tonight.”
