Lady Wildcats basketball falls short against Space Coast

There are some games where it seems like there is a lid on the basket. That seemed to be the case for the middle school Lady Wildcats basketball team Tuesday night, losing to the Space Coast Vipers 41-18 in their season opener.

A slow start set the Lady Wildcats back from the beginning, and their comeback efforts came up short. Head Coach Lauren Fisher and her players were adamant that they needed to execute better in order to succeed this season.

“It was a learning experience,” Fisher said. “We have a lot of new players, and we plan on getting better.”

Sonya F. had a lot to say about the game, namely about her disapproval of the officiating.

“They were bad refs,”  she said. “They made bad calls and were out to get me.”

Sonya also recognized the flaws in her team’s performance, noting that they were out-rebounded and didn’t run plays properly.

Space Coast player Coral F. was proud of the way her team played, and thinks they will continue their success.

“It was an exciting game,” Coral said. “I think we work well together as a team and we look forward to a great season.

Coral also offered advice for the Lady Wildcats.

“They need to just practice,” she said. “I can tell most of their players [from last year] left, and they just need to improve on offense.”

West Shore player Brittany B. was not satisfied with the way she and her teammates performed.

“It was pretty rough in the beginning,” she said. “We just need to know our plays better, and we shot too much in the third quarter.”

At one point during the game Coach Fisher cried out in frustration “Get the ball out of our half!”
