District track meet scheduled for Thursday in Titusville

After a long duration of intense training and several competitive track meets, the track season is coming to an end as the members begin to back down the workload and taper in order to be fully rested for Thursday’s District meet at Astronaut High School in Titusville. The meet will be an all-day event starting at noon.

“A lot of the motivated distance runners set up their own practice over Spring Break to ensure they keep up the mileage and stay fit to be in their best shape for Districts,” said Michael Field, senior captain. “Everyone is striving for some big [personal records].”

Some of the best runners in Brevard County from about 15 schools will be attending Districts. The meet will consist of multiple heats of each event, with preliminary races and finals which will make the meet an all day event.

“I’ve noticed how hard everyone has been working these past couple of weeks, and now it’s time to back down, rest so that we’ll put in our best times of the season,” said sophomore Luke Redito, top distance-runner. “I’m hoping that if we all trained smart enough, we’ll peak at the most important meet of the year — Districts — and hopefully qualify for Regionals.”
