Cross-Country places seventh in district meet

The boys’ cross-country team placed seventh at the district meet held at Wickham Park on Thursday. According to Coach Julie Hannah, team members paced themselves so they can perform well at regionals.

“Our top runners Brayden Cheek (11)  and Bryce Valverde (12) are coming back strong after having early season injuries,” she said.

Cheek said he was pleased with is performance.

“I knew that coming off of injury I had only had about two weeks of real training so I didn’t have super-high expectations for the district meet for myself,” he said.”The important thing about the district meet is just advancing to regionals. Regionals is going to be a meet where a lot of people on the team are really going to have to work so we can make states, so this week at districts we were holding back a little bit just so we could perform well at regionals”

The regional meet is schedule for Saturday and the State meet will be on Nov. 9.

“The district meet was very good, our team did really well over all,” Valverde (12) said. “The injury didn’t affect me very much. I recovered pretty quickly after the six weeks I was out. We had plenty of time to prepare, and I’ve had time to ramp back up to my early running.”
