National Art Honor Society to hold a Global Art Banquet

The National Art Honor Society is planning a fund-raiser in the cafeteria on Feb. 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“[Guests] can expect homemade food from different countries and learn about each country’s artistic style and art history,” president of NAHS Alex Deavers said.

NAHS members will be selling tickets at the event: one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5. Each ticket can then be redeemed for a drink, or an entrée or dessert from countries such as Italy, Japan and Germany.

“This is a great opportunity to have a nice dinner with your friends and family before attending the Senior Class’ “Minute to Win It” fund-raiser,” Deavers said.

Fifty percent of the money that NAHS raises from the event will go toward cleaning up part of the school’s campus.

“[The money will be used to] help restore the area between Building 5 and the locker room — the horribly disgusting area. We’re reconstructing it and putting nicer plants in, benches, making it look more artistic, and we have an under the sea theme,” Deavers said.

The other fifty percent will be donated to UNICEF to help raise awareness and prevention of child trafficking.

“I want to raise money for them because the issue of child trafficking isn’t well known and not many people are aware that it happens in the United States,” Deavers said. By Christina Baylen
