Melia scholarship essay due Thursday

The annual Jim Melia Memorial Scholarship essay is due Thursday. National Honor Society Missy Henderson and a team of English teachers will decide who receives the $1,000 scholarship. The topic of the essay is Mr.Melia’s legacy.

Henderson has been in charge of this contest since 2014 and will continue to oversee it until 2018. Members of the graduating Class of 2018 will be the last ones to participate in this scholarship because they will be the last ones to remember Melia, the assistant principal who passed away suddenly in 2013.

“[The past essays] have all been so wonderful to read, ” Henderson said. “Mr. Melia had such an impact on everyone and in a different way.”

For senior Senior Hannah Montgomery, writing the essay came naturally.

“I feel like knowing Mr. Melia definitely helped in writing the essay,” Hannah Montgomery said.” Writing this essay was in no way difficult, because Mr.Melia did so much for us.”

Essays should be turned in to Henderson in Room 4205.
