Whitworth fund-raiser set for Saturday

If you enjoy roller-skating, laser tag and bounce houses, then the Wildcat Runner’s Club fund-raiser for Coach Jason Whitworth might be just what you’re looking for. The event will be held Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Funtown, located on Wickham Road in Melbourne. The $10 ticket are available in the cafeteria during lunch and at the door; Funtown tickets normally cost $26.  Admission includes skate rental, skating and laser tag. The Runner’s Club also will be selling raffle tickets at the event for “baskets full of fun stuff.”

Last fall Coach Whitworth was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“Members of the track and cross country teams felt like we should do something for him in addition to the schoolwide fund-raisers,” senior Kate Crowley said. “The money will help with medical costs and anything his family might need. He’ll need money for lots of different things since he won’t be working as much next year.”
