Summer concerts feature old, young

Summer is always a big time for concerts, and this year is no exception. In fact, this is one of the biggest years for summer concert tours since the turn of the century, with some old bands reuniting and some new ones gaining fame. Whether it is classic rock, like the Rolling Stones, or modern rock like All Time Low, there will be a show to go see.

“I’m going to go see Boston, and then the next day leaving to see Def Leppard and Poison,” junior Sam Edwards said. “I’m more of a classic rock, hair metal kind of guy. I would go see the Rolling Stones on their tour, but half of them are dead.”

Some recent big names in rock and alternative will perform at the annual Vans Warped Tour. Well, some is an understatement. About 60 bands will be playing, depending on the venue. Streetlight Manifesto, Senses Fail, The Used, All Time Low, Anti-Flag, and Yellowcard are among those scheduled to participate.

“I’m going to Warped Tour, and I can’t wait,” junior Lauren Gorewitz said. “I’m really excited about The Used especially. I heard that they are really good live.”

If rock is too soft, around 10 metal bands will be at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour, again, depending on the venue. The ones that will be at each however, are Anthrax, Slayer, Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, and Mötorhead. Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper will not be on the Mayhem Tour, but they are touring separately as well.

“Iron Maiden’s going on tour again?” recent graduate Jesse Long asked. “Sweet, hopefully I’ll go. They’re great. They basically fathered metal.”

Rock is not the only genre out there this summer. LMFAO and Far East Movement are together as the biggest rap tour this year and the Mothership Tour is bringing the electronic club music and dubstep, including Skrillex.
