Senior Andrew Derrick’s band Sally’s Hope will spotlight its new album, “Visions of You,”  with a fund-raiser celebration at Melbourne’s King Center on Nov. 16 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Christian rock band recorded the album last summer. It features big guitars, catchy melodies and soaring harmonies.

“The whole idea of the band is to raise money for cancer effected families like mine,” senior Andrew Derrick said. “We named the band after my mother because she is battling cancer.”

Derrick’s mother has been diagnosed and treated for four different types of terminal cancers. She is now in remission after having lost her spleen, pancreas and left lung. She still has three tumors in her brain, but the doctors say they are inactive.

“I’m really excited about the release, its going to be a really fun event,” he said. “We are going to play a lot of the songs from the CD, and there will probably be a few other bands playing.”

The King Center event  is solely to raise as much money for cancer affected families.  Neither Sally’s Hope nor any opening bands will take any cut of the raised funds.

“We are planning on having some raffles and give aways too,” Derrick said. “Admission is donations only, and all the proceeds will be going to support cancer families. We are expecting a really great turn out, and I feel like it is going to be an extremely successful event.”

Admission to the show is donation-based, but the band  will be selling CDs, T-shirts and other merchandise to help raise money as well.
