If you’re looking to cool off on a hot day, the cafeteria has got you covered. A new peach smoothie was added to the menu around two weeks ago, according to Cafeteria Manager Alice Higginbotham.

“They’re kind of trying it for next year,” Higginbotham said. “At the end of the year, they usually give some schools something different to try to see if they’re going to bring it back next year.”

Higginbotham said she would like to add more flavors, but it is difficult to get smoothies that are 100 percent natural, like the peach and strawberry drinks.

“That’s why they’re not as sweet as what you would buy at the store,” Higginbotham said. “It’s all fruit, no additives.”

At the end of last school year, the cafeteria received the peach smoothie and were selling it, but it didn’t make as big of an impression as it has this year.

“Different group of kids,” Higginbotham said. “Kids come in and one tries it, and they seem to like it.”

Freshmen Annelise Williams and Caroline Cahill said they found the drink refreshing.

“After hearing what [Higginbotham] said, that it was natural, it makes it even better,” Williams said. “I think I have actually heard from multiple people that they enjoyed the peach more than the strawberry.”

Higginbotham said she said goes through an entire container of the peach smoothie per day and around 50 kids buy it.

“I really enjoyed the new flavor,” Cahill said. “It was just kind of boring before, with the one strawberry [flavor].”

Freshman Gabby Wills agrees, and said she likes the peach smoothie over the strawberry smoothie.

“It was a nice treat at school after being sort of stressed all day,” Wills said.
