Drama troupe sweeps at state convention

Adam Davidson, Will Niemeier, Hunter Curry, Jimmy Carroll, Brett Wendrzyk and Justin Mehlich won ‘Best in Show’ for their small group musical performance at the Florida State Thespian Festival last week. They performed the song ‘What a Game’ from the musical “Ragtime”.

The Florida State Thespian Festival is the largest gathering of drama students in the United States which took place at the Tampa Convention Center in downtown Tampa and the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

The large group performance, “Step in Time” from the musical “Mary Poppins” performed by Niemeier, Mia Glatter, Wendrzyk, Davidson, Carroll, Michaela Vine, Rachel Dunkel, Erika Caliari, Ariana Dresner, Curry, Caroline Baney, Stephanie Delgado, Mehlich, Joel Wadzinski, and Vivian Taylor earned straight ‘Superior’ rankings. Niemeier also earned a superior for his solo musical. Wendrzyk received an ‘Excellent’ rating for his solo musical. Jeana Lutz and Dylan Morrongiello received a superior for their duet musical.

The One Act, “In a Strange Land” earned an excellent rating. The performers included Niemeier, Wendrzyk, Riley Audet, Hana Kim, Joe Held, Richard Klenotich, Vivian Taylor, Alex Deavers, Caroline Baney, Sydney Balgo, Davidson, Carroll, Dresner, Caliari and Matt Verdier.
