Wixted’s lone goal helps soccer team advance

Freshman Aidan Wixted scored the only goal as the boys’ soccer team defeated Lake Highland Prep 1-0 in a regional quarterfinal home matchup Tuesday night. The team moves on to face Bishop Moore in the regional semifinal Friday.

“We wanted it,” junior Tyler Moscrip said. “There’s no stopping us when we have our mind set. It was a hard game; we just fought harder.”

With an assist from older brother Liam, Wixted scored the only goal of the game.

“He’s a great player,” goalie coach Bob Robidoux said. “And he’s got a good strike.”

Coach Scotty Armstrong said  during practice that he expected a lot out of  the young player, especially after he scored two goals in the district final against Satellite last Friday.

If the Wildcats defeat Bishop Moore, the reach the regional final for the first time in three years. Tickets to Friday’s 7 p.m. home game will be on sale for $7.
