Swim team prepares for conference meet

With the annual Cocoa Beach Conference meet looming around the corner, the swim team is preparing for the competition on Friday.

“We’re doing plenty of starts and turns for the relays,” Coach Kyle Berry said. “Finishes are also very important so they’ve been improving on that as well. Overall, though I think we’re in a pretty good place. The girls’ team definitely has a shot in getting into the top five.”

Being the biggest meet of the season, the girls’ team is ready for the competition.

“We’re doing pretty good actually because last year since a bunch of our senior girls graduated, I thought it wouldn’t be as good as it is,”captain Katelyn Owl (11) said. “There’s a lot of new people who’ve come in who are very good. As a team overall, I just want everybody to do their best and not stress out about having a big meet and just, earn as much points as we can.”

Owl’s personal goals are to win the 200-yard freestyle and place high in the 100-yard butterfly. With all of Brevard County’s high schools attending, West Shore will have an opportunity to race against all of them. It is scheduled to be on Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach Country Club.
