Wildcats claw their way past Bayside

Junior Brandon Benitez scored the game-winning goal as Boys’ varsity soccer beat Bayside 2-1 in the last thirty seconds off of a corner kick.

West Shore had 15 shots on target, and Senior Nicholas Burgess scored a freekick, but said the team still must improve for future games.

“I’ve been practicing these freekicks for the whole season, I am glad to see my work paid off,” Burgess said.  “We need to close these games out earlier if we want to go far this year.”

In the last minute of the game, Junior Brandon Benitez moved up from the defense to put the ball in the back of the net to give the Wildcats the win.

“Coach told me to go up for the corner so I knew I had to show him what I can do,” Benitez said. “When the ball went into the net I was overwhelmed with joy.”

With this win, the boys’ are at 4-1 on the season. Their next game is Nov. 30 away at Cocoa Beach.
