Girl swimmers transition to club season

Following the conclusion of the high-school swimming season, girls on the team have transitioned to club season. Most girls train on the same club team: the Rocoa Rockets. The club practices at Rockledge, Cocoa Beach, Palm Bay and Merritt Island making it accessible to most swimmers in Brevard County.

“I just recently joined Rocoa” freshman Kalia Clary said. “I used to swim on the Brevard Swim Club, but now working with some of the [Rocoa] coaches, I feel like I can make more progress in my swimming.”

Other swimmers in the club discuss the different atmosphere club swimming has than high school.

“I feel like the coaches are very interactive with you” sophomore Katelyn Owl said. “We have goal sheets to fill out for this season, and it keeps me motivated. The coaches keep a constant communication with us which is essential to our success.”

However, the girls will continue to swim year-round to stay in shape and improve for the next high-school season.

“I keep on pushing myself in practice to get better,” Owl said. “I want to go fast enough next year to qualify for the state meet.”
