Freshmen reflect on track season
May 2, 2019
Every day after school for three months, the track team practiced for its weekly meets. Monday, the team celebrated the end of the season with a banquet in the cafeteria.
“I thought the banquet was a good way to reward us for the season because it showed all the progress we made,” freshman Angela Maley said. ”I think that people should join next year. It’s a very good experience and a good way to get a varsity letter.”
Freshman Raven Morgan joined the team this season.
“When I originally signed up for track it was mainly because I wanted to opt out of HOPE, but it ended up being a really great year,” Morgan said. “But this season wasn’t necessarily about running for me. It was more the experience and being on a team with my friends and I really bonded during the season.”
But Morgan says she did progress throughout the season.
“[Coach Inga] Devlin really pushed me because I am definitely not the best runner,” Morgan said. ”For my event — the 300 meter hurdles — I was 1.12 seconds and I got it down to 1.09 seconds, which was an improvement for me.”
Maley also called her season a success.
“I think that I improved this season and it helped me a lot for cross-country,” she said. “We did more speed work instead of long-distance, and I think this improved my running skills and my endurance. Compared to middle-school track, I think the first year was kind of difficult just because they expect more of you. It was just a little intimidating, but overall it was a good season.”
