Crew opens season with two first-place finishes

Space Coast Crew’s men’s lightweight 4 team — which includes West Shore rowers Adam Sanchez, Stephen Vaughn and Alec Luker — placed first at the Sunrise Sprints on Saturday. In addition, Space Coast’s women’s novice 8A, with West Shore rowers Ariel Busing, Ana Guerra, Virginia Compton, Olivia Humphrey, Loryn Schopke and Julia Levy, also came in first.

The Orlando event signaled the opening of  the spring sprint regatta season.

Second-place finishes included the men’s lightweight 8, with West Shore rowers Adam Sanchez, Stephen Vaughn, Alec Luker, Kyle Landis and Steven Thomas; the women’s lightweight 4 with West Shore rowers Julia Rauchfuss, Eran del Castillo and Vianca Rivera; the women’s lightweight with West Shore rowers Julia Rauchfuss, Eran del Castillo, Maria Rivera, Virginia Compton, Loryn Schopke and Vianca Rivera; the women’s JV 4 with West Shore rowers Alannah Stewart and Nicole Marmol; and the women’s JV 8 with West Shore rowers Rivera, Alannah Stewart, Eran del Castillo and Vianca Maria Rivera.

Third-place finishes included the men’s varsity 4 with West Shore rowers Luke Ramer, Jeff Dickens and Ryan Everest; the men’s varsity 8 with West Shore rowers Luke Ramer, Jeff Dickens, Ryan Everest, Stephen Vaughn, Justin Yntema and Alec Luker; the men’s novice 8 with West Shore rowers Sommer Hidy, Kyle Landis and Steven Thomas; the women’s varsity 4 with West Shore rowers Maria Rivera and Helen Gerlach; the women’s novice 4 with West Shore rowers Vianca Rivera, Alannah Stewart and Olivia Humphrey; and the women’s novice 8B West Shore rowers Alex Avrakotos, Chelsea Fungaroli and Natalie Brown.
