Varsity boys upend Edgewood 58-53

Junior Travis McClendon scored 16 points and junior Auston Gonzalez added 13 to lead the varsity boys’ basketball team past arch-rival Edgewood 58-53 Friday in front of a spirited home audience.

“It felt great having a huge crowd because it was my last time playing Edgewood at home,” senior Khalil Paul said. “Having everyone there got me pumped before which also helped me play with more energy throughout the game. Without the crowd, we might’ve lost.”

The cheerleaders performed their routine at halftime and led the rest of the students for cheers during the game.

“During the game, I was feeling very excited to perform for the school, yet very nervous,” Katelyn Curtis said. “I feel that big crowds boost the cheerleaders’ [confidence] because we know we always have to put on an entertaining performance to make it not only fun for the crowd but also for ourselves.”

The boys’ next basketball game is tonight at Astronaut starting at 7.
