Runners prepare for track season

Though the cross-country season has been over for a while, that doesn’t mean athletes are done running.

“I have started training at the satellite track every Tuesday and Thursday,” Emily Oliver said. “We started workouts to get ready for track. We also have our long runs on Sundays and after we go to ‘New Wave’ gym for strength training,”

Oliver said she has begun to set goals for the upcoming track season.

“I am looking forward to finally being able to do high school track officially and getting to be in relays with all of my cross-country friends,” she said. “My main goal is to break my personal record of 6:20 for the mile and to try the two-mile.”

Runner Kayla Hannah said she expects a season of change.

“It’s going to be different because of the new coaches,” she said.  “Since they’re cross-country coaches, we’re going to be doing a lot more workouts this season.”
