Plahuta, Hayes lead track team

Sophomore Jonelle Plahuta placed second in the girls’ 1600 meter race and senior Jared Hayes placed second in the 400 Meter race at the Merritt Island track meet Friday.

“I did pretty good. I ran a 5:43 for the 1600,” Plahuta said “We practice four times a week but I run alone two more. We have two workouts a week, so hopefully all of that helps to get better.”

Sophomore Lexi Vander, however, expressed disappointment in her own performance.

“The team did well, however I cannot relate because in the pervious meet I got second in high jump and I got a personal record in the 100-meter dash and 300 in hurdles,” she said. “In the latest meet I couldn’t even get over the third height in high jump and I PR’d in nothing.”

The team will next travel to Satellite High on Friday.
